Electrical Rewiring Grande Prairie

Why Choose Us

Why Choose Indoor Elements for Electrical Rewiring

Rewiring is one of the most significant electrical projects a property owner undertakes. Our licensed Grande Prairie rewiring contractors have been rewiring homes and businesses throughout the Peace Country for over 30 years — with the experience to do it right and the credentials to do it legally.

Rewiring a home or commercial building is one of the more involved electrical projects a property owner will undertake. It requires licensed journeyman electricians — not apprentices working unsupervised. Every rewiring project we take on is performed by qualified tradespeople who understand Alberta's electrical code requirements, proper wiring techniques, and how to work through finished spaces with minimum damage.

Before we quote or begin a rewiring project, we assess the existing system thoroughly. What wiring type is currently installed? What's the panel capacity? What circuits need upgrading? Are there known problem areas — aluminum branch circuits, knob-and-tube, undersized wiring? A proper assessment means the quote reflects the real scope and there are no surprises once the walls are open.

A full rewiring project doesn't have to mean your home is torn apart. Experienced electricians know how to fish wire through walls using existing pathways, work through attic and basement access where available, and minimize the number of wall openings required. We plan the work carefully, keep the job site clean, and coordinate around your schedule to reduce disruption as much as possible.

Rewiring work in Alberta requires permits and inspection. We handle the permit process and ensure all work is completed to current electrical code — which matters when it comes time to sell your property, renew insurance, or if an inspector needs to review the work. Unpermitted rewiring work can void insurance coverage and create liability issues. We do it right.

In many older homes, a rewiring project also requires a panel upgrade. The original panel may be undersized for modern electrical loads, use obsolete breaker types, or simply be at end of life. We assess the panel as part of every rewiring consultation and include panel replacement in the project scope when it's needed — so you end up with a complete, modern electrical system.

Indoor Elements Mechanical has been serving Grande Prairie and the Peace Country since the 1990s. We've rewired homes built in every era — from post-war construction with original knob-and-tube to 1970s homes with aluminum branch wiring to more recent properties that simply need more capacity. That local experience gives us perspective that matters when planning a rewiring project.

What We Do

Electrical Rewiring Services

From complete whole-home rewiring to knob-and-tube replacement and aluminum wiring remediation, we handle the full range of rewiring work in Grande Prairie homes and businesses.

Whole-Home Rewiring

A complete rewiring replaces all branch circuit wiring throughout the home — from the panel out to every outlet, switch, fixture, and appliance circuit. This is the right solution for older homes where the existing wiring is inadequate for modern electrical loads, poses a fire risk, or has been flagged by insurers. We plan the project to minimize wall damage, coordinate permits and inspections, and leave you with a modern, code-compliant electrical system.

Knob-and-Tube Wiring Replacement

Knob-and-tube wiring was the standard in homes built before the 1950s. While it was properly installed for its era, it presents problems today: it lacks a ground conductor, it degrades over time, it can't safely carry modern electrical loads, and many insurers will no longer cover homes with active knob-and-tube wiring. We replace knob-and-tube systems with modern grounded wiring and upgrade the panel if needed to bring your home's electrical system to current standards.

Aluminum Wiring Remediation

Many Grande Prairie homes built in the 1960s and 1970s were wired with aluminum branch circuit wiring. Aluminum wiring requires aluminum-rated devices and connectors — using standard copper-rated outlets and switches with aluminum wiring is a documented fire hazard. We offer full aluminum wiring remediation including replacement with copper wiring, or proper pigtailing where replacement isn't practical. See our electrical repairs page for more on aluminum wiring issues.

Partial and Room-by-Room Rewiring

A full rewiring isn't always necessary or practical. For renovations, additions, or specific areas of concern, we can rewire individual rooms, floors, or sections of a building. This is common during basement developments, kitchen renovations, or garage conversions where the existing wiring to that area needs to be upgraded to support the new use.

Commercial and Industrial Rewiring

We rewire commercial buildings, shops, warehouses, and light industrial facilities in Grande Prairie and the Peace Country. Commercial rewiring projects often involve higher voltage circuits, three-phase wiring, commercial-grade panels, and coordination around business operating hours. We plan commercial projects carefully to minimize downtime and work through the scope efficiently.

Panel Upgrades and Service Upgrades

Sometimes the wiring is adequate but the panel isn't — undersized service, obsolete breaker types, or a panel that simply can't handle added circuits for a hot tub, EV charger, or workshop. We perform electrical service upgrades from 100A to 200A or higher, replace outdated panels, and add circuits where needed. A panel upgrade is often the right first step before or alongside a rewiring project.

Trust & Experience

Grande Prairie's Trusted Rewiring Electricians

Rewiring a home or business is a serious undertaking that requires licensed electricians, proper permits, and the experience to work through different eras of construction. Indoor Elements Mechanical has been doing this work in Grande Prairie since the 1990s — we know the wiring systems common in local homes and how to replace them correctly.

When the job is done, you'll have a safe, code-compliant electrical system that meets the demands of modern living — and won't cause problems when you go to sell or renew your insurance.

Permits Handled For You

We manage the permit application and coordinate the required electrical safety inspection through to completion. You don't need to navigate that process — we handle it as part of the project.

Experience With All Wiring Eras

We've worked through post-war knob-and-tube systems, 1970s aluminum wiring, and everything in between. Understanding how older systems were installed — and how they age — is essential to replacing them safely and efficiently.

Residential & Commercial

We rewire homes, rental properties, commercial buildings, shops, and light industrial facilities throughout Grande Prairie and the Peace Country. Whether it's a single-family home or a larger commercial project, we have the crew and the experience to handle it.

“Recently had a furnace installed by indoor elements after having furnace issues, their prices were very competitive compared with other venders in the city, They were very knowledgeable and did a great job installing everything and were very professional the entire time and answered all my questions and then some. Would recommend them for all your furnace and Machanic needs. Happy with the service provided so far. EDIT had them instal my AC system and again service was great and install was great , I had a bit of a challenging install due to the furnace room location, but still was able to make it work no problem. The install was alot cleaner then compeditors installs I had done in other houses, and more attention to detail was taken.”
